Lep Digitization and Transcription
Stacey Huber in partnership with the McGuire Center’s education department and Amy Hester (volunteer coordinator) are setting up a workflow so that images digitized through LepNet will be transcribed by museum volunteers. These volunteers can log hours from home as they help transcribe. This has now been extended to junior volunteers (summer pre-collegiate students). Transcription of images have also been tested in the main public rotunda of the MGCL to showcase the importance of digitization of museum specimens.
Lep Camp
Spring 2017
The first LepCamp took place in August 2016. Organized and staffed by employees and volunteers of the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity, the goal of the camp was to introduce middle school students to the art and science of making scientific collections of insects. This year the program engaged first-graders in creating a new butterfly garden at P.K. Yonge Elementary school.
