The purpose of the SCAN portal is to bring all the data records and images together in one place. However, all images and data records are managed and annotated by each collection. If a collection uses Symbiota as their database (i.e., Live) they should upload all their records and images directly to the portal, but they should still maintain their own backups of their records and images. If a collection uses another database (e.g., EMu, Specify, Arctos, TaxonWorks) they should create an IPT. The IPT will contain all their records and a URL link to their images, which are presumably stored on their institution’s server.
